  School Festivals

The Robert Burns World Federation hold three National Festivals each year at various venues throughout Scotland. To see how much the youngsters and their parents and teachers enjoy competing why don't you click on our Schools Video which shows what happened in a previous year.

The 2011 National Festivals will be held as follows

Secondary Schools Festival

Saturday 30 April 2011 in Lockerbie Academy

Primary Schools Festival

In these Festivals pupils can compete in one or more of the following disciplines:

Instrumental (any instrument apart from bagpipes)

Registration for both events will be from 11.00 am till 12.15 pm and assembly for all competitors will take place in the main assembly hall at 12.20 pm.District Co-Ordinators have Entry Forms, which they should complete and return following Schools Competitions in their district from which the best performers are selected.

Closing date for all entries (both Secondary and Primary Festivals) is 29 March 2011 (this date must be strictly adhered to due to the time frame available for collation of participants’ details and the printing of programmes). All competitors will receive a lunch voucher at registration to be redeemed at the canteen prior to the start of the even. In order that registers and adjudication forms can be completed at the earliest opportunity I would request that all entry forms be forwarded direct to the appropriate Co-ordinator timeously.

Primary Schools Choral Festivals:

Choirs are required to sing two songs - firstly their warm-up choice (any Scottish tune) followed by a Test Piece.   Entrants are reminded that the Test Piece MUST be sung in unison and that choirs are restricted to a maximum of 30 and a minimum of 15 children participating.  The Adjudicator will allocate marks on the Test Piece only as the choir’s choice piece is seen as a warm-up song

Registration for the Primary Schools Choral Festival will take place between 11.00 am and 11.45 am.

A draw to determine the order in which choirs will participate will be made on the day.

An accompanist can be supplied if necessary and juice and crisps will be supplied to all participants at the end of the event.
