Congratulations President Michael !

The Irvine Burns Club (Ayrshire, Scotland) - the longest continually running Burns Club in the World, held its Millennium Burns Supper on Friday 28th January, 2000.

Around 200 guests attended the function, which is considered to be one of the countries finest traditional Burns celebrations.

President Michael Murray as the keynote speaker, proposed a superb Immortal Memory to the assembled guests who included members of Parliament (both the London and Scottish Parliaments), representatives of various organisations and councils, journalists (including American press) and members of the famous Irvine Burns Club.

John Inglis & Sam Gaw (both former Presidents of The World Burns Federation) gave exceptional recitals of poetry in their inimitable style for which they have become recognised throughout the world.  Vice President Hugh Hutcheson delivered the traditional "Toast to Bonnie Jean" and presented the historic and unique ceremony of the "Loving Cup" symbolising brotherhood amongst mankind. Vice President Elect, Hugh Drennan, delivered a resounding toast to the historic "Royal Burgh of Irvine", the town that played an important part in Burns life. Entertainment was provided by some of the areas finest Scottish musicians and singers.

A great night was had by all. Congratulations President Michael on your successful year and on your impassioned Immortal Memory.
