On Andrew Turner

Burns Original

Standard English Translation

In Se'enteen Hunder'n Forty-Nine
The Deil gat stuff to mak a swine,
And coost it in a corner;
But wilily he chang'd his plan,
An' shap'd it something like a man,
An' ca'd it Andrew Turner.

In Seventeen Hundred and Forty Nine
The Devil got stuff to make a swine,
And cast it in a corner;
But prudently he changed his plan,
And shaped it something like a man,
And called it Andrew Turner.
