I Will Go And Be A Soldier

O, why the deuce should I repine,
And be an ill foreteller?
I am twenty-three and five feet nine,
I will go and be a soldier.

I got some wealth with much care,
I held it well together;
But now it is gone - and something more:
I will go and be a soldier.
