There Was A Lovely Girl

There was a lovely girl, and a lovely, lovely girl,
And she loved her handsome lad dear,
Till War's loud alarms tore her lad from her arms
With many a sigh and a tear.

Over sea, over shore, where the cannons loudly roar,
He still was a stranger to fear,
And nothing could him quail, or his bosom assail,
But the lovely girl he loved so dear.
