The night was still, and o'er the hill
The moon shone on the castle wa',
The mavis sang, while dew-drops hang
Around her on the castle wa':
2.
Sae merrily they danc'd the ring
Frae eenin till the cock did craw,
And ay the o'erword o' the spring
Was:- ' Irvine's bairns are bonie a'!'



The night was still, and over the hill
The moon shone on the castle wall,
The mavis sang, while dew-drops hung
Around her on the castle wall:

So merrily they danced the ring
From evening till the cock did crow,
And always the refrain of the tune
Was:- ' Irvine's children are lovely all!'
