(Note: - Miss Jean Armour eventually became Burns wife.)

In Mauchline there dwells six proper young belles,
The pride of the place and its neighbourhood all,
Their carriage and dress, a stranger would guess,
In London or Paris they had gotten it all.

Miss Millar is fine, Miss Markland is divine,
Miss Smith she has wit, and Miss Betty is brave,
There is beauty and fortune to get with Miss Morton;
But Armour's the jewel for me of them all.
